Doja Cat Like That

Doja Cat Like That Description

Doja Cat Like That: “Like That” is a song by American singer and rapper Doja Cat featuring rapper Gucci Mane. It was originally included on Doja’s 2019 album Hot Pink. The track was initially set to impact urban radios on February 11, 2020. However, it was rescheduled and pushed back in light of “Say So” climbing the charts and was later serviced to rhythmic radio on May 12, 2020, to top 40 radio formats on May 19 and urban radios on May 26 as the album’s sixth single.

Doja Cat Like That Background

On November 1, 2019, Doja Cat announced that her album Hot Pink would be released on November 8, 2019 and revealed the track listing alongside the album’s release. Doja Cat Like That “Like That” was confirmed to have a featured artist that would not be announced until the album’s release, when it was revealed to be Gucci Mane. Similar to its predecessor “Say So“, the song entered the charts before its single release due to a viral dance challenge using the song on the app TikTok.

Consequently, Doja Cat Like That charted ahead of release as a single in the United Kingdom, Canada and Ireland. The song peaked at number 72 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States after being serviced to radio.

Doja Cat Like That Music video

A accompanying music video for the song was filmed in late March 2020. In June 2020, clips of the video, which turned out to be a director’s cut, leaked online, with the full video leaking eventually. The official music video was released on June 25, 2020.

Doja Cat Like That Synopsis

The video starts with the title card panning down to Doja Cat standing in a futuristic blue set amongst her backup dancers. Doja and the dancers immediately bust out choreography whilst shots jump to an animated version of Cat which sparked comparisons to the anime television series Sailor Moon. The video is plastered with animated graphics throughout the video. Doja Cat eventually meets up with collaborator Gucci Mane, who leans and poses in front of a convertible while rapping his verse of the song. Doja who is either dancing beside Mane or in the convertible takes back the song and ends the video with the splits on beat followed by a black screen.

Doja Cat Like That Critical reception

Lakin Starling of Pitchfork wrote, “Doja weaves easily from rap mode into a whispery chorus with an upbeat R&B groove reminiscent of early-2000s Janet Jackson. It’s the perfect soundtrack for a backyard party.”

Comparing the song’s composition to that of songs that previously popularized on TikTok, Cat Zhang wrote, “Doja’s softer, girlier aesthetic offered an alternative to the vulgar, brutish rap that previously soundtracked the platform. And her brash, confident lyrics […] offer snippets of female empowerment.”

Hot Pink is the second studio album by American rapper and singer Doja Cat. The album was released on November 7, 2019, by Kemosabe. A departure from the dancehall and psychedelic style of her debut album Amala (2018), it is a pop, R&B and funk record containing elements of soul. Doja Cat wrote all of the tracks alongside its songwriters and producers. It features production from Doja Cat, Yeti Beats and Dr. Luke under the pseudonym Tyson Trax, among others.

The album received generally favorable reviews from music critics. It debuted at number 93 on the US Billboard 200, after one day of tracking. The next week, Hot Pink rose to number 19. Later, the album reached a new peak of number 9 on the chart becoming her first Top 10 entry on the chart. The album produced five singles; “Juicy”, featuring Tyga, “Bottom Bitch”, “Rules”, “Cyber Sex”, “Say So”, and “Like That”.

“Say So” became Doja Cat’s first number one single on the Billboard Hot 100, after two remixes featuring Nicki Minaj were released. The album features guest appearances from Smino, Tyga and Gucci Mane. According to Rolling Stone, Hot Pink has sold 382,900 album-equivalent units in the US during its chart run with 10,582 of those units being pure sales. Doja will embark on the Hot Pink Tour to promote the album.

Doja Cat Like That Lyrics

[Intro: Doja Cat & Gucci Mane]
Cállate, Mike Crook
Burr, burr
Gucci (Don’t stop)
Doja, Gato
Yeah (Don’t stop)

[Chorus: Doja Cat]
Tha-tha-tha-tha-tha-that’s my shit, that’s my wave
Do it like that and I’ll repay it
Don’t be scared, I ain’t afraid
Just like that, come my way
That’s my shit, that’s my wave
Do it like that and I’ll repay it
Don’t be scared, I ain’t afraid
Just like that, come my way (Yeah)

[Verse 1: Doja Cat]
I said, “Do that, do that, baby, all night long”
And I’ma turn off all my phones
You know I hate it when I’m left on read
But he make it all up in the bed
And he take me out, dinin’ on nothin’ but the best
He got Off-White on right, damn, he can dress
Makin’ plans from the East, makin’ bands in the West
Rockstar, Black Beatle type, bands on his bread
And baby, I want it, and I’ll just be honest
‘Cause I just can’t front when I look at you
Just keep it one hundred, when I throw these hundreds
I hope that your ass gon’ know what to do

[Chorus: Doja Cat & Gucci Mane]
Tha-tha-tha-tha-tha-that’s my shit, that’s my wave
Do it like that and I’ll repay it
Don’t be scared, I ain’t afraid
Just like that, come my way
That’s my shit, that’s my wave
Do it like that and I’ll repay it (Huh?)
Don’t be scared, I ain’t afraid (Wop)
Just like that, come my way

[Verse 2: Gucci Mane]
Gucci El Dorado, we in Rome, I’m a model (Rome)
Gucci Mane and Doja Cat, call me El Gato (Gato)
I’m the big boss and I got big bread (Yeah)
I’m gettin’ big-headed and I like good head (Shh)
I’m not cheap, baby, and I’m sure not selfish (No)
Shakin’ like Elvis, damn near broke my pelvis (Sheesh)
Jumpin’ off the top rope, got ’em tag teamin’ (Tag)
Putting on a show, I got the whole crowd screamin’
Bougie with the bread, I’ll knock a top-notch freak (Freak)
Act like I’m a treat when a dog see me (Rr)
Like a thief in the night, just like she stole my green
Got me walkin’ off the scene like a hole in my jeans (Damn, Gucci)

[Chorus: Doja Cat & Gucci Mane]
Tha-tha-tha-tha-tha-tha-that’s my shit, that’s my wave (Yeah)
Do it like that and I’ll repay it (Huh?)
Don’t be scared, I ain’t afraid (Huh?)
Just like that, come my way (Burr)
That’s my shit, that’s my wave
Do it like that and I’ll repay it
Don’t be scared, I ain’t afraid
Just like that, come my way

[Outro: Doja Cat]
Said I like it
I like it
I like it
I like it like that
Said I like it
I like it (Ooh)
I like it
I like it like that
Tha-tha-tha-tha-tha-that’s my shit
